El Edificio del Lino
Granada | Spain“We have come to the conclusion that it is more valuable to fill the space by restoring it rather than protect it by destruction”, this way Antonio Fernández Alba points out the situation that the spanish architectural heritage is currently suffering, as a result of a deep oblivion during the years we would like to call crisis, and nowdays a result of a hurry sometimes to become the redemption of architects, governments and political entities.
There is no place, however, for these new interventions in heritage without a deep architectural analysis, which uncover the values and defects of the passage of time on the forgotten architecture and this way leaving a critical trace to work about with a correct judgment.
This research and analysis work aims to be a humble example of this proccess every architect, as an member belonging to the architecture job, should know and practice before the difficult task of restoring, recycling and designing on our heritage.
In this work, the case study focuses on the Edificio del Lino, a building from the early XX century, a piece of the architect Fernando Wilhelmi Manzano. This building has been a victim, once again, of that distant look from the city of Granada with its recent architectural heritage.
The intention of this work comes from the renunciation of an intervention wich first of all deserves to be a collection of drawings, remembrances and history... setting a prime example of the work of an architect as a critical and technician person who uses these elements in order to design architecture.
Julio Cano Lasso said: “Today architecture is only for architects”. I would like this work enable me to become an architect.
